AFTERMATH TAKEOVER National Championships are the culmination of the 2022-2023 regional KĀOS Tour. Bring your hip-hop solos, duos, trios and groups to compete in Takeover! All routines that compete will receive a detailed score sheet from our professional faculty members.

AGE DIVISIONS
All ages are as of January 1, 2022. Each routine must compete in the average age of all dancers in that routine. A routine cannot drop 2 levels below the oldest dancer (A group with an “Alpha” may not drop down to the “Delta” division.)

TAKEOVER HIGH SCORE AWARDS
Overall Alpha, Bravo, Delta & Echo High Scores will receive a competitive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place award. Their Cash winnings are as follows:

TAKEOVER NATIONAL GROUP
The top THREE overall highest scoring routines in the Small Group, Large Group, Line, and Production divisions from each of the Alpha, Bravo, Delta and Echo age divisions are eligible for the National Group Award.

FREESTYLE BATTLE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Dancers who enter the Freestyle Battle will go head-to-head on stage in front of an audience and judges.
- There is an entry fee ($45 early/ $55 regular) to compete in the battle.
- Contestants will compete within their appropriate Age Divisions (Reminder: All ages are as of January 1, 2023.)
- All previous battle winners from the 2022-2023 regional tour will automatically be in the championship round.
- Battle Winners will be decided by the KĀOS Faculty.
- We encourage the competitive spirit of a battle, but contestants may be disqualified for toxic behavior.
- All contestants must be registered for the AFTERMATH workshop to participate.
- Winners in each age category receive:
- 1st Place Battle Winner: $200 cash
- 2nd Place Battle Winner: $100 cash
PERFORMING FOR ALL AGES
Remember that AFTERMATH is an all ages event and routines must be appropriate for everyone attending. This includes movement, content and music. If the judges feel your routine is inappropriate, points may be deducted from your final score or the routine could be disqualified. This is a subjective opinion, but we try our best to create a tasteful event for all attendees.
CRITIQUES AND SCORE SHEETS
All competing routines will receive score sheets at the conclusion of AFTERMATH. They will be available to pick up from the AFTERMATH General Info desk by 9am on Wednesday, August 3rd.
MUSIC
All music must be clean and appropriate for all audience members. You must submit your music online before the event through Dance360 and bring a backup on a digital music device.
PROPS
Props are allowed but must be taken on and off stage within 2 minutes combined. Props that can be dangerous, inappropriate or that may damage or mark the stage are not permitted.
HIP-HOP ONLY
Hip-hop is defined by movement that uses primarily hip-hop technique and style in addition to sub-genres and variations of hip-hop. You may include other styles of dance in your routine, as long as Hip-Hop is the primary focus.
VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHY
For the safety of our dancers and choreographers’ creative work, we do not allow photography or video recording of any kind from the audience.
ADMISSION
Admission to watch the Takeover Competition & Freestyle Battle is free and all are welcome to watch. Bring your friends!
- Dancers must be registered for the AFTERMATH workshop to participate in the Takeover National Championships or Freestyle Battle Championships.
- Fees are non-refundable, no exceptions.
- Additional time (up to 3 additional minutes) can be purchased for $5 per dancer, per additional minute, for Small Groups, Large Groups, Lines and Productions only.
- Group routines with 4+ dancers are allowed to “age up” only to the next age division.
- Independent dancers are welcome to participate in the KĀOS Competition & Freestyle Battle
- Competition is hip hop only.
- All fees are in USD.
